spent 50 minutes in my folks backyard the other day with my 70-300mm IS. For a 1/640th sec speed I needed ISO 6400 (H1), f6.3. A month or 2 ago I shot at ISO3200 which produced terrible noise - but some kind POTNers reposted them with 'modern' NR (Denoise 4 & Lr3).
I since acquired Lr3 [& PSE8] and the job ACR 6.1 can do on noise essentially makes me feel like I have a new camera (the dpreview.com review of Lr3 also states same). I could have increased the NR on these further (esp. the hummingbird) - and I acknowledge these are no works of art - just showing some 50D ISO6400 shots that I think Lr3 did a Very good job on (especially versus my outdated ACR 4.6 in PSE5). Next time I'll try ISO H2 for the heck of it and see what it can do...

Been playing around with it the last two nights and love it! So glad I finally got a real DSLR
