no RAID is a redundancy, its not a backup - what happens if all the drives fail, or a fire?

That's correct... Keep a RAID connected to the desktop, and frequently backup to 2 Hard Drives (non RAID)... Keep one in a closet, and keep one in a off-site safe, or safety deposit box...

Thanks to everyone on this forum. I have learned quite a bit since I started late last year. Here are a couple photos I recently took that I like. The first is of downtown Dallas with the Trinity river flooded. In the second one, it had started raining in the sunshine while the sun was going down.

Chris, second shot is outstanding. I love it.

What would you guys suggest for low-light photography with minimal grain? Just get the ISO down as far as possible what's practical with my aperture & shutter for the conditions in the shot?

Here's a recent shot (not mine) from this thread:

I just checked the EXIF on that one. ISO 100, how about that.

Another recent shot (not mine) that I like from this thread:

Hmm..with a closer look, I'm seeing some grain there. But I only noticed because I made a point to look for it. No EXIF on that one.

Adam, are you reading this? Do you know what your ISO was on that poker shot?

Hi Shane,

First off -- glad you liked the shot. :) ISO here was at 1600, but I also emphasized the grain in post...I actually liked the effect. :)

Here's the shot slightly larger. Running a good noise reduction filter (Noise Ninja is incredible, btw) would reduce the noise to almost imperceptible levels. I'll have to go back and look at the original to see how the noise is, but it's been my experience that you will see noise at ISOs 1600 and 3200. Typically, however, it can be substantially reduced in post. I think the important part is simply correctly exposing the shot at capture -- bumping up exposure on a high ISO shot WILL create noise...especially in the shadows.

Paint dancing to music on top of a loud speaker. this is the absolute first shot I took.......i think that was luck, need to improve light and sharpness etc
was inspired by Linden G's work for the new canon pixma adverts, his shots can be seen here: www.flickr.com/photos/13084997@N03/ (external link) he does use prfessional equipment such as sound activated trigger with delay etc. and obviously I still have a lot of trial and error to do as so far i only end up with drop explosions. I think this was a nice try.....after one or two days i will try again, and probably will use the subwoofer.

would love some CC

QUOTED IMAGE

this one asks for PP. cross-process or split tone it, enhance the constrast. you could also try merging different exposures (if you have the raw) from the same shot.

cool perspective
