hmm odd, cause when I saw on DigitalRevCom the vid comparison between 50D and 550D iso 6400 were quite similar

I tend to limit my ISO speed from 100-1000. I have been looking for any hack for its firmware to make the noise better but I guess its really the sensor(hardware) that has issues with it. My firmware is already updated. I expose to the right. I shoot raw and process NR on it but it really takes a while to process 100-200 images. Any advise will be really appreciated.

In real life you would not notice much difference in noise. Ultimately, if noise is your main concern, you should get a full frame body. I think I'd be able to "live with" the 50D alot easier than my T1i because of the better handling and build, who knows, maybe I'd love the 50D enough to not be in a rush to upgrade anyway. the 50D upgrade wouldn't cost me much at all which is why I am considering it, I'd love the slightly larger and brighter VF, better AF, better build, slight weather sealing, faster FPS, etc. which is why I am looking into it. I am not expecting an IQ boost, I am pretty happy with my T1i's IQ as is. Website

I'm almost wondering if there may be a slight problem with my sensor, or if its simply and ID-10-T error... 50D / 17-55mm 2.8/ 50mm 1.8/ 28-80mm 3.5-5.6 / 75-300mm 4-5.6 / 500mm f8 mirror reflex / Bower flash

Is this based on personal observation or from another source? I shoot a lot of low light stuff, sometimes 3 gigs a week and its just a personal observation I get more noise at the 1/3 stops than the full stop ISO's, and i know how to shoot high ISO mmaculens wrote in post #11101023 How are the 1/3 steps (other than 200, 400, 800,... 12800) not considered true? Is there some type of incamera processing that pushes exposures or something? I will (reluctantly) turn off the 1/3 steps also if I am convinced. when i first got the 50 i thought it was all hardware, but apart from i believe the 1 and 5 series all other 1/3 stop settings on Canon DSLRs are software. so either push or pull the true ISO depending on how close it is to the true setting - eg ISO160 i believe is pulled down from ISO200 ISO800 Robert Whetton

Interesting. Is that how they create the "Expanded" ISO range, also?

(or if i blog, or post shots online) im trying not to go for anything but true ISO's 100,200,400,800,1600,3200,6400,12800 - i've found that i get more noise if i use say ISO 1250, 2000 etc and am now starting to bump from say 1250 to 1600 instead.. infact i'm going to turn it off in camera now.. I just dont like to see a lot of noise in my images but there are times that the noise really works for me though. I really appreciate the advise of using a true ISO. Thanks a bunch!!
