I am really only adding a second because of photo obligations this year turning more paid, so i can't risk being on location with only one body. Time will tell...

Ok, so what happens if you're on location and your 50D craps out? You're going to pull out your 7D and....not know it as well as the 50D and won't get the same quality shots.

If you're going to have a backup, you really need to have the same body.

Besides, 7D > 50D in almost every way. I've got a 50D but have shot with a 7D. If I weren't hoping to save enough for a 1DX I'd probably have a 7D. If you're going to have the 7D and only shoot it occasionally, you're missing quite a bit...

I will make sure I am capable with it...buying it two months prior to the need. Long term the goal is to havr two of them...long term.

So are there more issues with the focus than not or is this nothing to be concerned about? Just wanted to get my ducks in a row before I make a decision. Very helpful too guys by the way. Its appreciated. I am not familiar with the MA on the 50D either.

TBH, I don't know. I have used 4 50D's, two of them were well used rentals, one is mine and one is my dads. I have not had any focus problems on the four that I have used...but they are like anything, there can be differences, but that happens with lenses and other bodies too. If buying used, ask questions of the seller, see what kind of lenses they use with it, do they have issues in daylight, low light, consistently front or back focusing. Sometimes it is the lens too...as mentioned my 50mm MkI back focused, but the rest of my lenses have always been spot on...seem to be that way so far with the 7D too.

I've never experienced any focus issues with mine.

Ok understood. It sounds like anything else. hit or miss depending on lenses and calibrations and stuff. Probably going to go with the 50D over the 40D so if anyone is selling I would be a buyer.

i hope my post didn't scare you!

like i stated before, that was my 2nd 50D and i bought it used off Craigslist. my first one that i bought new when it came out, was spot on for AF with all my lenses.

i probably could have sent the camera in to Canon to get it calibrated, but then i'd have a lot of lenses that would have to go with it and i know they're all sharp on my 5D2 so i decided to get rid of the camera instead.

my 2 friends also have 50D's and theirs is also spot on for AF so i think it was just the one i had that wasn't good.

test out the camera before you buy a used 50D to make sure it's good. bring your lenses with you and try them out and use a laptop if you have to in order to make sure it's good.

i did that after i sold the 50D and bought the 7D instead (also my second one lol).

my apologies if i made you concerned that the 50D was not a good camera.

it definately is a great camera and you should definately consider buying one :)

Just got back from a trip to Shanghai; here's a couple of my favorites from the trip. I'm looking to do a little more with the second one, but I'm not sure what quite yet.
