I'm excited to join the 50D owner's club...I just picked one up today to replace my XT. My XT has served me well but is LOOOONG overdue for an upgrade. I had been looking at 40Ds in the local used market, but then I found this 50D with 25,000 actuations and in great shape, for not much more than I have been getting offers on the 40D. I am anticipating that shooting with it, vs the XT, is going to be like a whole new hobby!

My quite modest little gear list: 50D gripped | 135L | 50 1.4 | 50 1.8 | 85 1.8 | 28-105 3.5-4.5 | Speedlite 420EX | 2 Yongnuo 460ii | stands, 2 umbrellas, one softbox

It really does open up some nice features for you to have a play around with, especially over the XT... there's no doubt you're going to love it :)

Why is there so much grain in your photos?

It was pouring with rain .. much like right now.

I really detest the English weather :(

I must admit though that I mainly shoot with my K-5 which has much better dynamic range and high ISO capability than the 50D. With the Pentax I can pull a lot of detail from the shadows with very little quality loss .. which I tend to forget when using the Canon.

I think I need to shoot a bit more to the right with the 50D.

Yes. I've noticed the same thing with my 50D. When I shoot to the right, I get very good high-ISO images (very good for this camera but more than usable).
