...well, with the little amount of money i have left after presents, i bought this nice condition but 'older technology' camera.

not so well with high iso shots but ok with decent light. what do you guys think?

when properly exposed, the 50D can do ok at higher ISO's, there are many examples in this thread of people shooting at well over 1600...and the 50D is a great body, I miss mine already...

I think the deal you got is more than fair, and a typical price that I saw when figuring out what to sell mine for. I just sold mine to a good friend at the friends and family price for that same price...and it had the RRS bracket, 4 more batteries and a remote release too...

you're absolutely correct, I tried it at 3200 and I was disappointed. just didn't have enough light in the backyard last night. maybe it could have been done better but it requires skills, skills I do not have, haha.

I use mine at 3200 pretty regularly with no issues. I realize this is a pretty long thread, but take some time to read through it. There are many tips for maximizing quality with higher ISO's.

The 50D is excellent for aviation photography.

thx jhayesvw!

i believe the bird in the photo is a peregrine falcon and not a paradigm falcon as you pointed out. but you may be right that it is a cooper's hawk, i'm not very familiar with birds of prey.

^^^amazing bird shots!!!

I just bought a copy of a 50D and noticed that the firmware is 1.0.1. I believe the latest one is 1.0.9, will i be missing out on anything if I don't update the firmware? it says on the canon website that it has to do something reading to the newer cf cards?

^^^ Thanks a lot for appreciation

As far as firmware is concerned, don't update it...does nothing much

Also as they say, dont fix it if its not broken :-)...if any of your card does not work, you can upgrade the firmware anytime anyways..

Take care
