About $30 for a 2" focuser, and less than that for 1-1/4". Gripped 7D, gripped, full-spectrum modfied T1i (500D), SX50HS, A2E film body, Tamzooka (150-600), Tamron 90mm/2.8 VC (ver 2), Tamron 18-270 VC, Canon FD 100 f/4.0 macro, Canon 24-105 f/4L,Canon EF 200 f/2.8LII, Canon 85 f/1.8, Tamron Adaptall 2 90mmf/2.5 Macro, Tokina 11-16, Canon EX-430 flash, Vivitar DF-383 flash, Astro-Tech AT6RC and Celestron NexStar 102 GT telescopes, various other semi-crappy manual lenses and stuff.

The focuser is an older, discontinued model and nothing currently on the market will mate up to it properly, I even bought a whole new focuser and THAT wouldn't hook up to the body of the telescope properly. I did tell them the exact model telescope I have and I was told "This is the model focuser you need" Of course, it wasn't or maybe they thought my telescope was newer than it is. I'm just done with it EOS 5D MKII

It's easy to say when you're not the one trying it or not seeing what I am seeing and experiencing. I know exactly what piece you are talking about, I have one. Here's the reason I need a new focuser... The image will not focus, there is not enough inward travel on the focuser draw tube. It will not allow the cameras sensor close enough to the telescopes focal point. I would need a low profile type focuser, but there is not one on the market, that I have found, that will properly mate up to my telescope. There are 2 that orion sells, and those are the same 2 that are sold by many other companies, they are made by the same manufacturer, just different retailers. There is nothing wrong with the scope its self, when properly collimated, it's images are tack sharp, I just dont see myself spending wads of money to get my camera mounted to it, when I can easily sell it and buy something smaller, more powerful, and more importnatly, more portable. I do appreciate the advice and the help, greatly. Thank you. EOS 5D MKII

That's one advantage of a scope aimed at photography like the Astro-Tech RCs: there's no problem getting your camera close enough to get a focus. Sometimes I need more outward travel, but that's easy to accomplish with extenders. Jul 21, 2015 18:35 | #224 For portable astrophotography I love the Astrotrac, I can easily get 300s exposures with a 135mm lens. I have done more astrophotography with this tracker than with any of my other mounts because it is so easy to move, does not require a computer, and sets up in about 10 minutes. IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/q2wmASFor autoguided astrophotography and the use of telescopes I use two different mounts. the Zeq25, rated to carry 28lbs, weighing only about 10lbs and the large Celestron CGE which has a capacity of 65lbs and weighs about 50lbs. IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/sRtp8n The scopes that I use currently are The Barska Magnus 80mm APO and an 8" Ritchie Chretien made by TPO. The barska refractor is an apochromatic triplet with a focal length of 570mm F7. I use an apochromatic .8x reducer/flattener which makes this scope become a 480mm F5.6. It also has an upgraded GSO dual speed focuser. The Ritchie Chretien has a native focal length of 1,600mm F8. It can be used with the reducer to become a 1,280mm F6. I have equipped this scope with a motorized moonlite focuser. My camera is a 550d which has been modified to full spectrum with MC Clear glass over the sensor to retain autofocus. With this camera I use several filters. Astronomik EOS clip CLS CCD, Ha 6nm, and OIII 12nm. I also have a UV/Ir cut 48mm filter which I use from time to time. It has been a good setup so far. IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/tV517e In the future I am thinking of moving to a fullframe dslr, 5ds r, and downsizing to widefield imaging only. I may keep the refractor and add a recardi reducer, I would like to add a 300mm f4 edif pentax 67, a leica 180mm apo f3.5, and a samyang 135mm f2. The pain would be upgrading the filters which get expensive quick. I really enjoy astrophotography, there are challenges in every aspect of the hobby from locating a dark site, setting up and successfully imaging, down to the final processing. I'm in it for the long haul. Wes
