It's just showing that it has an articulated center column...lift it high enough and you can tilt it over for macro/copy work.

Heads? I use a Manfrotto 488RC2 (ball type) but you might also check out:
- Really Right Stuff
- Arca/Swiss (I think this is the right name...)

the 488RC2 will hold more weight, not sure what you need.

Yeah... I think I have the grip on more than off... so I'd probably go with the one for the grip first.

Soo... if I get the same tripod as Randy, the same Ballhead as Jay, and the same type of plate thingy as Mike, would I still be considered a "copycat"?
