Hi Todd.... so..... where is your gallery... and what do you like to shoot, and blah, blah blah... oh and WELCOME!! :)

Hi Kristy... I dont have a gallery yet, but it seems like i should get on that. I like shooting landscape stuff or cool buildings/bridges etc, and candid random people shots

Speaking of cool stuff, does anyone have any info on antelope canyon? I see seriously awesome pics of that place, and cant wait to check it out...

Hi Todd and welcome...

I spent a week in Page back in September of 2007.

Did the Glen Canyon Dam and tour, Horseshoe Bend (not to be missed!), Lower Antelope Canyon and both sides of the Grand Canyon.

Pics At:

It's fantastic up there with tons of photo worthy things. Best time for sun shaft shots in Antelope is (ugh) during the summer months when the sun is at its highest in the sky (you'll notice I didn't get any :( )

Any more questions, fire away...

Jay

Wow Jay... those are some amazing shots! so would it be a waste to go up there this time of year, or do you just miss the rays of light?

Hi,
My name is Erich and I'm a photoholic. I'm from Tucson. I enjoy long walks on the beach and failing miserably at golf. I started taking pictures on this stuff called 'film' a long time ago and recently got back in things when I picked up my Rebel XT. Now, nothing is safe. I'm a computer guy by day and a husband and father by night. Between restroom trips, I also moonlight as a photographer.

I just finished a 300 mile photo-drive around southern Az yesterday with a buddy. We went from Tucson to Sierra Vista, Naco, Bisbee, Tombstone and then to Gleeson and Courtland. Had a good time, took about 500 shots and learned that chorizo should be eaten sparingly when doing remote shoots. Adding salsa to said chorizo should be even carefully contemplated. I also discovered that there is an XM radio station devoted to all AC/DC songs, all the time. Who knew?

I currently looking to start making a few bucks off photography to help support the habit, so I'm going to start getting my feet wet in the Stock industry. I've been accepted to Alamy and will start building that up as well as focusing on some micro-stock stuff as well. I think I really like doing sports shots as well (cycling is my favorite so far) and might work to transition to that side of the house.

As far as gear, I've got a 70-200 2.8 non-IS coming on Wednesday. I figure it's a good lens for a lot of stuff and my other 'good' lens is a Nifty-Fifty Mark I from back in the day when they actually used metal for mounts. I've also got a 55-250, the kit 18-55 and a 75-300 (again, about 14 years old) that's not a half bad lens. My body is, as I said an XT. Eventually I'll get an xxD, but for now, I'm doing OK with that.

Oh, and has anyone ever told you folks that you talk alot? :D

-Erich

I don't think any time of year could be considered a waste per se...

You may not get the tried and true, cliche shots but who wants those anyway?

The only drawback would be (and this is from a rabid anti winter person) is that it's getting freakin' cold! Also, the North Rim shuts down (and may have already done so...) for the winter because snow makes the road in unusable.

Snow on the rocks up there however would be awesome!

ah yes, the cold... i would tolerate the cold if it meant getting some cool shots, and as you say, snow on the rocks would be very cool! I wonder when they shut it down... hmm...

Welcome Erich...

You just missed a few of us at the Desert Museum this past Saturday...

I'm planning on heading back there once my 70-200 gets here. I tried doing the hummingbird thing with my 55-250, but the slow focus and small aperature was killing me. They wouldn't let me catch one of those little suckers and tape it to a stick, so I had to let that go. I look forward to returning with my lens-on-a-stick and seeing if it helps. I'll get those tiny, twitchy little buggers if it's the last thing I do!

:)

I'm not even a hummingbird fan, but I do find them a challenge. I just couldn't get anything decent on my last trip :(
