Stand in one place long enough and something interesting is bound to show up (no manipulation on this btw...only about a 50% crop):

I've read a bunch of stuff, but thought I'd ask anyway. How much do sharpen for print?

Mike, Depends on what you use to sharpen. I've found the sharpening in PS and other editing programs to be less than idea. The solution for me has been using Qimage as my printing program, with it's built in interpolative sharpening tools. I've had good and consistent results with this app. my 2 cents.....

Hatch

Interesting build. Is this really meant to function as a ringlight or just give ringlight highlights/catchlights? How do you wrangle the photons in a particular direction when the interior is all flat surfaces? Isn't a true ringflash a parabolic cross section?

Wow that's a loaded question... IMO, it's entirely personal taste Vs printer Vs paper Vs ink characteristics Vs size Vs viewing distance, etc, etc, etc...

I have a Canon 9000 using Canon Ink on Ilford Gallerie Smooth Pearl. I tend to input sharpen from ACR @ 40-70, 25, 20-50, 50-100 (the two numbers would be the Hi/Lo I might use...)

Output sharpening? Hell, it's kind of whatever feels right. Some images I'll use UnSharp Mask, some I'll High Pass Sharpen and some I'll only sharpen the luminance channel in LAB Mode.

If I'm printing from Lightroom, I'm generally on "HIGH" @ 240-300dpi which actually was a reccomendation I picked up from one of Scott Kelby's books.

As the car companys say: Your Mileage May Vary...

Thanks, I'll check into Qimage and compare. I use PS, a few came back funky looking. They looked great on screen though.
