Beautiful shots. How long of an exposure was that?

Kevin

14-15 minutes each :)

beautiful star trails. Wish I could have been there.

Thanks :) You would have had fun!

Brian

Great lighting as usual. I'm finding my self trying to figure out the setup when I see a photo I like. This is especially nice.

Hatch

Like the trails a lot. Good job as usual.

Thank you Guerry

Had a great night out. Only a couple I liked from the long exposure. I'll have to play around with the ones I wanted to stack.

Next time, somone is going to sit on that rock and give me a cool silhouette! If we frame it right, like in the second image, it would be like the universe revolves around them. How cool is that?

Very nice shots Brian. The 1st one is very cool looking.... but I have to say I like the second one the best. You captured some nice shots.

Thanks again all for a fun night out... New Mexico never looked better. (J/k... was a 92 mile drive ) ROFL

i only saw two of the little buggers during my years there and they were both outside by the front door. There is a lot of plants all around the complex so that might be the attraction.

Well, I can handle them outside. That's their home... inside, however, is mine! :)

Hatch and Brian, good job with the star trails. Lessons learned...
1. Bring hot drinks
2. Buy remote with timer so I don't have to count the shutter releases from Mike's camera.
3. Did I mention, bring hot drinks?
4. Clean sensor (you can see the big dust bunnies)
5. Take a longer exposure because I want longer trails
6. Ask Brian's wife if it's ok to hold her hubby's hands. Brian had nice warm hands. ;)
7. Take strap off camera so it isn't swinging in the wind
8. Bring along a really big person to act as a wind break (If said person is bing enough, I may not need to do #7)
Anyway, here's my contribution. I wasn't really fond of the icky brown color, so I played with the color a little.

Thanks Frank, Jeremy and Tammie.

Frank and Tammie, I like your shots.

I learned a few things too. Like that I prefer seeing some detail in the foreground, rather than sihouette. But, it meant a higher ISO/wider apeture. Since the foreground was exposed by multiple stars, each with a different color temp, the color casts were horrible and would require compositing/masking to fix in post. I like the sky in color, but the foreground in B&W. :)

I really want to try this again the next time I go back to Montana. It truely is the "big sky" country, and you can usually see far more stars than we saw last night. I think it would be cool to get some shots with an old dilapidated barn/farmhouse and the star trails.
Tammie,

We'll get you some gloves. :)

**YAWN**..... ;)

Geez you guys... I had SOOOO much fun! Thank you Mike and Jeremy for figuring it all out for us... :)

I only took 2 pictures... lol.... Here they are.. Not spectacular, but I'm sure I'll want to try it again sometime. Is it possible that there were "too many" stars...?

Tammy, Hatch and Brian.. awesome shots.. I like Hatch's framing... and Brian your exposures are so cool.. : ) Tammie, I like to colorizing you did to yours.. adds interest. I may have to go and revisit mine later.

Jeremy I want to see you cactus... :) Mike wha'd ya get? You are in my landscape shot... :)

I think this is too dark....

I didn't really get any actual star trails. But... oh well. Next time. :)

Have fun cleaning!

Cool stuff Kristy (BTW, it's 2009 now...)

Jeremy,

Sorry to hear your shots didn't come out. I'm up for Feb 21st. We'll do it on the West Siiiiiide this time.

I'm afraid to look at my viewfinder/sensor though. It must be horribly dirty.
