I think I need to clean the sensor on my 40D. I was out shooting the full moon today and got some bug in the shot:

Jay, I love that photo of the moon and the plane in silhouette.

That brings a question to mind. After 9/11, are you going to get in trouble for sitting at the end of a runway and taking pics?

Sky Harbor is pretty accessible - I've often thought of parking at the end of the runway and shooting some long night exposures, or trying to set up a shot like yours. Or just getting some sweet airliner pics.

Thanks...

One of the major problems with Sky Harbor is that it's a totally urban airport and surrounded on all sides by freeways and businesses. There's no open land. I've seen folks parked along the fence at the northeast corner of the airport (along East Air Lane) but the lighting there will blow (facing south) and the backgrounds will be really cluttered (US Airways maintenance building --> Terminal 4 depending where they touch down.)

I'm told that shooting from the top deck of the Terminal 3 or 4 parking garages may get you a visit from someone but I haven't run accross any stories of people being rousted. Honestly, I've not ever tried shooting from there simply because I already spend way, way too much time in that airport. I'll shoot at Tempe Town Lake just because there's other stuff to look at.

Unless I can shoot them in really unique light or from relatively unique angles, commercial airliners don't hold that much interest for me. There's very little variety anymore. Just an endless parade of Airbus A319/A320s.

also, since jay got all this camo gear for him and his lens no one could really find him shooting any airplanes...I kid. But would be cool to see the 300 with one of those camo covers.

There was a guy out at the Riparian Preserve with the Canon 500 f4 L IS that had the camo cover on it. That thing is a monster. He had it on a very tall Gitzo CF tripod with a sweet gimbal mount for the zoom. I think his tripod & head cost more than my camera.

Nice work all! I like this last shot you posted... looking good!!

Here is one from last night...

Still not sure about the Lastolite Tri-lite reflector.... only the 2nd time I have seriously tried to use it... still on the fence about the catchlights...

What do you all think?

Had to google the reflector, never heard of such a gizmo; so is it just reflecting indoor lighting ? soft yellow (standard lights) or a studio light ? Looks effective, soft shadows, and seems to work as advertised.... BUT I just noticed this ... I see the reflectors in her eyes--not sure how to get those out, PS.
