I'll tell you this. The copy of the Tokina I had and tested was just a sharp at 2.8 as it was at f8 and f11. That's very impressive.
Comparing the two, you could see a difference when the Canon was wide open but stopped down to f5.6 or f8 I couldn't tell any difference between the two.

That's great to hear! Sharpness is one thing that's difficult to fix in post.

While it might be a pain in the rear, I figure I should at least be able to get a couple color profiles set up to get the Tokina relatively close to the colors produced by my 17-40L. I'm hoping that won't be necessary though.

The colors will be very close. I think the Tokina will be a little cooler The Canon warmer
Here is the normal, non HDR version. Just cropped and resized.

Nice, have ya'll already gotten your first snow in Vermont or was that from last season? Also, does Photomatrix usually have trouble with CA appearing in snow scenes? Or was it something specific with that scene that caused some issues?

I know you already bought the Tokina... But still.. Have you considered other WA lenses?

Sigma 10-20mm for example? Not a F2.8 .. But still.

To be honest no not really.. well there is sigma but I wouldn't want to be stuck with a bad copy. They seem to have bad QC, but that's just from what I've read

If you look at Lens Rentals repair cahrt, the 10-22 is more problematic than the 10-20.

Yea we got about 6 inches last week but its gone now. There was a tiny bit of bluish green CA in the original RAW files. You could only see it at 100% Probably just that particular scene. Photomantix will magnify it and oversaturate it quite a bit.

Here is rogers quote about the 10-22 from lensrentals:

Roger’s take: I’m usually not too much of a ‘Canon snob’ and for most items we carry several alternative lenses in that focal length. This is an exception – I’ve tried the other ‘ultra wides’ and the Canon is just better. Its more expensive, but its flare resistant, sharp, and has surprisingly low distortion. This is one of those “if you haven’t shot with it you should” lenses.
