Hey gang,
First off I am a wedding photographer-- when not doing weddings I work for news organizations capturing whatever they want. Recently I took a role as a team photographer for a minor league hockey team -- I have shot for them before and they took me on as the team photographer. Here is my problem --- I was told a few weeks ago that they would like a few headshots --- no problem. I figured we could do them in the stadium somewhere. Well today I rec'd a call that I am doing the headshots for all of the office staff, all of the ushers and paid employees and then I am doing the coaching staff -- and all the players. AAAHHH ..
First of all as a wedding photographer I do not have backdrops--- I have a white and black sheet and jerry rigged setup for a backdrop --- for just in case. I have several strobes with umbrellas-- so lighting I am set--- my problem is going to be a backdrop..........help! What do you recommend?

I would go to the local photo store and pick up a few seamless papers. You can get them in a half width sheet that works great for headshots like this. Put the roll of paper up on a c stand secured with some clamps. It works great and is cheap. I think these little seamless papers cost like 20 bucks or so. They come in a wide variety of colors. I generally like white, grey or black.

Use a light and a wall, perhaps? This may be of some help:

Thanks guys! They called me last night because the coach, GM and asst coach could not make my 5pm shoot --- I had to run there this morning and was able to pull it out of my backside.
First I showed up early and everyone was waitng......great, nothing like pressure. I was looking for a spot to shoot and the person running the team store recommended the back room. I said great.....got there and the lighting was horrible....but I did not have much time to search so I pulled out my white sheet and clipped it onto the display wall. I set up my 580ex II's on light stands with umbrellas - attached my pocket wizards. Took my shoplight and pointed it at the backdrop (white sheet). After asking one of them to be my test dummy I adjusted my lighting and was ready to go. They were all in a rush and I forgot my small step ladder (I traditionally shoot head shots from a small step ladder --- in my opinion people look better when they are looking up a bit etc). I ended up shooting standing on a chair.

Anyway here is a gal from their front office:
