You just gave me an even stronger argument for the 40D. I'm trying to save up for one now. I took shots of the angels at the great state of Maine airshow in Brunswick a few weeks ago with a Powershot S3 with a teleconverter lens. Didn't really get any great shots, I was testing aperture settings and had them down too low for the shutter speed. Just another way dyslexia sucks because ap settings seem counterintuitive to me.
1 pointer I do have that seemed to work for me was keeping my telephoto zoomed out to get a track on them and then zooming in leading them just a hair to find the shot.
Good luck and keep shooting.

If you have the funds, I would suggest you purchase a 30d. There are a couple of threads on POTN that discuss how if you have a tight budget, a 30d will give you a good camera value, and that way you would have the funds to purchase a nice lens. I think that is great advice. I was able to get a VERY good deal on my 40d, but that is only the tip of the ice berg in terms of $$$$ for this hobby.

On a side note, I did pick up a Rebel XT on clearance at Target for $210, and a nice Tamron 17-50 2.8 for $320. :) That should give us nice photos for relatively not much money. My 40d camera and Canon 17-55 IS was a much more expensive set up.

you can't salvage much when half of the plane is out of the frame.

I'm new to all this photo editing stuff - but this was my first attempt....took me less than 10 mins, I'm sure someone here with greater skills could do a much better job?

Have you got a larger image somewhere? 600x400 is a little tricky to work on!

My FLICKR photos can be seen here - please feel free to comment.... (external link)
