I realize that the next time I shoot this, I need a greater depth of field. And I haven't done more than crop it and adjust wb.

My question is, is this as interesting a picture as I think it is?

Yes it is interesting, if as you mention more of it was in focus and I think it needs a little more punch.

Thanks, Jeff. My biggest issue, aside from the manipulation of the tool, is that I feel like I have an uncritical eye. I see all the world as equally beautiful; I see beauty in order, I see beauty in chaos, I see beauty in the mundane and I see beauty in the unusual. But when I use a camera to isolate the beauty I see, it doesn't look like what I thought I saw. I asked the question the way I did because I know that I still have to learn the tool; but I don't want to wind up with technically correct photographs of boring subjects. Learning the tool is only one of the challenges, but it is the one I am confident of. The other, the subject, that is the part that fascinates and eludes me.

I tend to like patterns in material and architechture. I think a B W would work here to help keep focus on the pattern. Also more focus would also enhance the look. I see where you were going with this. A different point of view with the same subject might be the answer as well.

I think it is interesting, I would just flip it vertically it is more pleasant for the eyes to start at the bottom of the picture and then move up.

I was just about to say what Luigi just said

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

Luigi

Before I read this I copied the photo and rotated it 180. I liked it much better then.

Retake the shot but this time make sure that you can get all the rope sharp and see what happens.
