I am in the process of shopping for a background support system and was wondering if I should go with muslin or paper backgrounds. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

Which should I choose?

I like paper because it stays in the roll and comes out unwrinkled. The fabric is difficult to store properly to keep smooth and is heavy. I have a simple 2 stand, 3 connect rods frame support I got at B&H and have hung many different backgrounds and the deep blue is the best for portraits, putting the subject about 4-5 feet in front of the paper. I bought 3 different colors and the grey and blue work best.

Paper is a nice and cheap way to go, just make sure you have a place to store a 10 foot long or so roll of paper! That was my issue.

Great comments, thank you. With paper, I am limited to only solid color backgrounds, right?

What do you do for something a little more stylish?
