Hi all. I'm new to the forum, only second post and first with images. I was out in the Marlborough Sounds (New Zealand) snapper fishing this afternoon and as the fishing was pretty quiet I turned to the 450D for some entertainment. These two pics were taken with my 17-85 IS USM with 'manual' extension tubes. First real attempts at using the tubes (bought because I can't yet afford a good dedicated macro) so would be absolutely grand if you guys could 'tear the photos to pieces' so to speak.
I find it frustrating that because these tubes have no electronic coupling there is no aperture control (it just reads 'f00' on the monitor and I'm not even sure what that means....is it wide open or shut ??)which means you're stuck with a fixed depth of focus. With all three tubes installed the DOF is tiny and limiting as a consequence. Probably the price you pay for using these types is it ??
Anyway, please critique away.......thanks very much....Matt.
