For me it is about leg stance, breathing, and squeezing not pushing... those are the three things I consider when holding a slow speed.

If you can find something to brace on, use it as one leg of a "tripod" and lean on it so as to use your two as the others.

TheHoff, once again you are bang on the money!

I've managed to get tack sharp images hand holding a 200 f/2.8 for 1/15th of a sec using those techniques.

1/25 sec at 500mm on a bigma on a 30D, so 800mm equivalent fov.
