Worth every penny...

All the money spent on the studio stuff. I can't believe I got her to sit for these. There was a lot of running, jumping, leaving, etc... but I was able to get a few good ones. I could really kick myself on some of the in camera crops, but it wasn't easy and I am pretty happy with the results anyway.

I compared these to the ones I had done of her at Picture People when she was a year old and (not meaning to sound arrogant here, but they were taken by a HS student on dirty white paper) they are really very similar in quality. I spent $200 on those pictures. It makes me wonder why every parent doesn't have a studio in their basement. Think of the savings!!

Great shots. I also would like to set up a studio at some point if, for no other reason, to save money on all the kid photo shoot stuff! Plus, I think it would be fun to learn how to do portrait work. I have focused mostly on wildlife thus far, but I am going to be taking some pics at a friend's wedding in a couple of weeks to try doing some portrait stuff. I am not the photog or anything, which is a good thing, just along for the ride.

I also have had issues with the people at the camera place not really being as professional as I would like. Right after I got my camera, and we went to the Picture People to have some shots done. The girl shooting was using a Fuji S5, and I commented that it was a "good camera for portrait work," and she gave me this really funny look. Plus, I was asking questions about their studio setup and I think she was getting tired of me.

Wow! Phenomenal portraits! I agree with you about having a portrait studio in the basement...I have one of my own, but not sure it's a great as yours by the looks of it. Those pictures are sharp! What camera do you use, or did you use a sharpening tool in PS? Just curious....and a little envious of your quality work.

That would be exactly why my hubby got me my camera for Mother's day last year.

We really need to have a WI mommy (and/or daddy) meetup sometime at somebody's place and flash the snot out of our kids.

Thanks. I use a 40D and these were with my 50mm 1.4 at f4. I do sharpen in Photoshop because I shoot RAW so it's pretty much a requirement. Then I make sure I sharpen for web on the small images so that the sharpness isn't lost when they're resized. That really helps a lot!

Not enough to coerce my 2 year old and 6 week old to cooperate either.

Christy -- I'm using a 430EX... right now it's bouncing into a white umbrella. I've also shot it through the umbrella with just about the same result... and a Vivitar 285Hv into an XS Photoflex Litedome softbox -- the tiny one that's made for hotshoe flashes.

I would LOVE to have some Alienbees, but I keep telling myself that I'm so much better off with something I don't have to plug in right now. Maybe soon.
