interesting, comparing it with D300, the D300 was a tad cleaner. Nothing that would be noticeable in a print I think, just pixel peeping. Loss of detail was identical.
The higher resolution of 50D is noticeable when zooming in a bunch.

The 50D default setting creates more contrast, compared to the d300.

thanks Tsmith for posting this.

Love this forum, even though I shoot with dark side. :D

I downloaded the indoor studio shots at ISO 400, 800, 1600, and 3200 for the 50D, 40D, and 5D. The noise level between the 40D and the 50D seems negligible to be. The 5D seems a touch quieter but I'm pixel peeping at 100% crop.

Are these RAW's converted to JPEG or JPEGs out of the camera? The 5D seems the sharpest, maybe b/c it's at f8 and diffraction may be taking effect on the APS-C sensors. Between the 40D and the 50D, the 50D seems a touch softer at ISO 800 and up to me. Not a huge difference though.

Interesting.

P.S. ok, looks like it's JPEG shots. Comparing the ISO 1600 shots of the new indoor shot and the one with the bottles and the crayon, I think the Nikon d300 look nicer overall.
Sigh. I was so looking forward to the 50D. Now I'm looking at that old 5D again.
