I'm thinking of buying a 16 gig SDHC card for my soon to arrive XSi. Will it format correctly in the XSi?

Thanks!

Jim

I use an 8 gig card without problems. That holds about 500 raw images. Do you need 1000 at once?

Not really needed unless you use the camera for critical applications, where you'd likely have an X0D or above and a few 4gb cards for the speed anyway. 16gb cards are fine, just get them from a reputable source. Real Sandisk Extreme III cards currently top the charts in speed (well, at least in the affordable price range) and are likely to outlast you camera. I've had a total of 10 sandisk cards, a 1gb ultra II, 2x 2 gb ultra II, 12gb extreme III, 8gb extreme III sdhc, 3x 2gb ultra II sd 2008 edition, 2x 2gb ultra II sd, and none of thse cards ever had any problems (other than the fact i lost the 1gb ultra II). Even on extended trips i'll just take my 12gb card, so much easier, and no problems even after about 30k shots on that card (which holds only about 800 shots at a time, so i've definately emptied it a few times.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

cool i just hope he doesnt loose them even on non-critical situation...i still say 2 x 8gb,or whatever I dont think at that size you wont even fill it up... I stay on the safe side of things.. that's why flash drives, external drives and NAS are widely available and recommended even at home, back-up is really something you should look at.. and even if you fill up the 16 or 8 imagine the tedious task of browsing through them 1k+ and 3-450+ raw images respectively...

Yes I would never just have one card with that many pictures on it. It's always better to have more card. When I shoot I use many cards swapping them out every 100 pics or so.
