Hello.

Still learning all of the fun features of my XSi.

I brought it to work and tried to take a few pictures, here are the ones that I think came out best. They were re-sized to me internet friendly. Comments and suggestions welcome!

Thanks for looking!

Good start. Shows that you're willing to experiment.

I would like the ambulance shot alot more if the ambulance showed up more. You'll have to use a flash to make that work. I like the other shots also, but on my monitor they need alittle more light.

Thanks for the job you do.

The right side of the background is distracting in #1 and #2. It looks like it might have been cleaner if you stepped forward and to the right. The composition of #3 is confusing to me -- unless one realizes that the red light means that there is a call. However, there's nobody rushing around to respond to the call. Open doors on the truck don't do it. Number 4 is an interesting idea, but it's overexposed. Not given the context of the first three shots, I wouldn't know what I was viewing. Here is a chance to use second curtain flash, which would illuminate the fire truck at the end of the streak. That would show us what it was.

I love the idea of #4!! I think it would be worth it to retry the shot with the suggestions that have been given to get a clearer picture of the ambulance. It's difficult when shooting something that emits so much light, and I'm sure the reflecting paint on the side doesn't help either, but I really think this has potential to be an awesome shot!

I like #1. If possible it would have been good to drop the aperture down a bit more to blur the background.

You didn't need to take photo #2. You got a good composition in #1. Photo #2 is more distracting with less emphasis on the subject.

ftb: I agree, more bokeh would set it off, I may try this one again as well. The only reason I did #2 was to have the bar and axe handle in the background, kind of like a "tools of the trade" concept, but not so in your face if they were in the same focus as the helmet.

I like the shot of the truck in the station. Hope you don't mind....I played with it a bit in CS2. Tried to straighten the distortion, also cropped it, adjusted curves, increased saturation, added USM. What do you think ?

I also like the potential of the shot of the ambulance leaving. Like the earlier post....would be good use for second curtain flash.

Thanks George!

That looks sharp, the red seems to "pop" more!

I go back on shift on wednesday, I will try more later this week.
