Took mine out for a real world test run tonight, and was shocked that the battery gave out at about 300 shots. No flash was used. 10/20D regularly got between 500-700 with the same 300L IS mounted. 1D mkIIn's regularly click off 1000 plus. I ran around Atlanta trying to find anyone who sold spares, and no one had any. One dealer said he was not surprised they were so weak as he thought it was the same battery some of the older camcorders used. Anyway, lots of nice things about the camera, but battery life isn't one of them.

I had backup cameras, so it wasn't a huge deal... I don't plan on always carrying extra cameras around with me. I will be ordering extras asap.

BTW, this was with Live View off, and no review image either.

And people tell me I'm wrong when they say Canon can make a Pro Body w/o a grip battery.

Barely having gotten to know my XTi, I popped for the set of two SterlingTek batteries, at something like 1700 mAh each, as opposed to the supplied Canon battery rated at 720 mAh. Cost me $26.50 US, and I'm pleased as punch.
