Reading a thread today I realized that it's possible to get "third party" batteries from someone such as Sterling Tech for my 400D - a replacement for the NB-2LH. Not only are these really cheap, they are rated at a much higher mAh than the original Canons - 1700 mAh in place of the 720 mAh of the originals.

Is there anything I need to know about using third party batteries? Any pitfalls that make it a bad idea?

In particular - is it possible to use the Canon charger that comes with the camera to charge these batteries, or do I need something different because they're a higher power?

It just seems like such a good deal it makes me wonder why the original Canons cost so much more!

Kim.

There's a sticky in the "Accessories" section that will answer your questions.

SterlingTek batteries are long lasting and reliable.
Canon charger will do just fine, no need for anything special.

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

Bloody excellent!!

2 batteries ordered and paid for - price including delivery to Japan....$30

That's around half of what one Canon battery would cost me here!!!!
