Well, I just bought my first digital SLR a few days ago. I have been using just about anything as a test subject to try to learn some of the features of this thing. I have had a few pictures that i think turned out good, and I am not looking for someone to critique them, so I know what to look for next time.
So, without further ado here they are.
All pics taken with a Canon Rebel XSi w/ the kit 18-55mm lens. All natural lighting from nearby windows, taken in manual mode.

Hey, welcome to POTN

OK, so in the first picture your flash fired. In the second and third, you shot with ISO800 and a very slow shutter speed (1/13th and 1/25th) - so at 55mm, at these shutter speeds, I would say these two came out terrific and your camera is performing well. The kit lens isnt a macro lens, designed to be crystal sharp at minimum focal distances.

If macro is your thing, set your sights on the EF-S 60mm f/2.8 lens. It's a killer on your cam for macro and doubles as a reasonable portrait lens as well.

These photos require some tweaking in brightness and contrast to shine. If you have the time and interest, avoid jacking up the settings in the cam, but use your image editing software to tweak afterwards to achieve the look you like.
