Hello -

Our local photography club will be doing free portrait sessions and prints for underprivileged families and also for the women and children living in a local shelter for victims of abuse. We are all amatuers and most of us are way more comfortable behind the camera than behind the computer :) We'd like to make these portraits very special for the participants, something to really brighten their holiday. I'd like to get some suggestions for pp techniques and to be pointed to any good tutorials. We have access to Photoshop.

We will be doing some black and white, where we prefer simplicity. . .but then we will be doing some color and we'd like to include some dramatic effect, something like the photographer at the site below (examples are under portfolio - Toddler #12. . .Bigger Ones #14,23, 25. . .Together #13,15,23. . .Itty Bitty #8,9. . . though probably not as extreme on the eyes in some of the examples.

ANY input is appreciated!!!!!!!! Thanks in advance for taking time to read this!

Because you have a descriptive title, you can look at the "Similar Threads" links at the bottom-left of this page!
Each link you visit should provide more links at the bottom.

how long does it take you to clean/retouch a portrait?

I'll do that. . .thanks for suggesting it. . .and for being patient :)

I, myself, haven't spent much time cleaning/retouching portraits. . .beyond the very basics, as I don't shoot many. I typically shoot more things and places than people. I am, however, familiar with at least the basics in PS and we have some ramp up time, as we are going to start the shoots at the end of November and run them through the first couple of weeks in December.

Thanks so much for getting me started on some reading :)
