Done and decided then! The Deep Throat comes first. :)

Great choice. We're all so proud of you, Rudi!

I was hoping to understand better when looking first at B&H's example of a Beauty Dish.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com …e_Maxisoft_Reflector.html (external link)
The image examples there are no less than horrible, so I have no idea if it's plastic, metal, etc. But $300 for a 27", & 170 for 17" by the time it lands on the door step, wow. It must be Kryptonite. I think I could easily deform a 56' Buick hub cap for $10. :)

Granted studio lighting is a new step for me here, and it's not that the dish reflector is a complicated device, just that I could use source links to see gear close up 360.
Motorcycles to Street Rods and full Snap On boxes are my normal world.

It's a great site here, and tours to local shops are not always geared complete for hands on exploration. Just acquired a Elinchrom 500.
So much to learn and spend as quickly as possible again.

You could say that about any quality softbox, too. But.. it's what they do with the light that counts!

Well, this is what I got after the fermentation was complete. The Elinchrom Deep Throat Octa (I call her Linda! :D ). Next to the 75" Octa light bank, the most sought-after Elinchrom softbox. Never met anyone who has one and doesn't like it! I'm going to really put it through its paces over the next few weeks, hope it's as good in my hands as what I've seen out of it from others...

Taken at my parents place with all their mess around it. I went out of my way to light it properly, too - set the 5D at ISO 1600 and fired away with just the house lights and nothing else! LOL Oh! And converted to JPEG in Lightroom 2 (picked up the upgrade at the same time... for some reason it always costs me more money than is in the budget when I visit that shop :( ).

P.S. Just for Dave F. I requested that both my strobes (casing) and the new Deep Octa (piping) came in "manly grey". Apparently "Barney purple" is out this year! ;) :p

You should have opted for the purple deep throat. Its truly awe invoking.

Good purchase Rudi, you will not be sorry. For a second I thought you were saying that you also bought the large OCTA!

I wish! I have the 135cm Octa and this one. Just playing around with it last night I can see why so many people like this Deep Octa. The light is wonderfully directional, while remaining soft. With this box it's so easy to feather the light, even with both diffusers and no grid, this is gonna be a lot of fun! :)

Congratulations Rudi.

I agree that I don't think I've ever seen anyone that owns the Deep Throat complain or have a negative comment. In fact, it's always quite the opposite and as you know, Elinchrom users like Frank Doorhof says it's one of his most used modifiers and he produces some absolutely beautiful images with it.

Can't wait to see some of your work using "Linda". :D
