Nice car. I like the way it's shot, but the front end is just too dark.

No, you could/should have used a reflector or a fill-flash (off-camera) and your problem was solved :).

Your cobalt SS/SC shots were a lot better. Try this light again:

Why not put it where something isn't reflecting in it & killing the defining highlights in the body?
Look for a cleaner location. I found this one 1 mile from where I live:

Of course you can, but it's not necessary. You can make one yourself, get some cardboard and put reflecting or white foil on it, it's easy, and it works.

If you ever wondered if it was worth to make/buy a reflector, read this.

Imagine the lamp is the sun. The cool VW Kombi split van is your Nissan Silvia and so on ;).

This is the shot just like you took it:

Put a reflector in front of the car. A reflector that catches the sunlight and is pointing towards the front of the car.

See, works like a charm. You've recovered a massive amount of detail there. With a mirror the front would have been even brighter, but it's about the idea.

It's not that spectacular, in fact it is real basic stuff. You can also put a flash in front of the car, nothing wrong with that but think about the power that it's being spilled. A flash is not necessary in my shot, as you can see. The only power you need is the sun :). Use an external flash when it is necessary.
