Took some shots of the Kid and the car.I seem to be having a hard time with exposure with the white car and the black shirt any help would be greatly appreciated.

Next time you might try EC -1/3 to -1. You can alwasy recover the hightlights in PP without loosing the shadows.

Black cars are easy - they reflect everything. White cars in flat light are tough. They suck up all the light so you have to help them out & put them where they have some brighter highlights to reflect & give the body more definition.
