This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before and After #116".

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!
Any edit, over-the-top creative or subtle, is encouraged!

This game will end on Wednesday, October 8th at 5:00 pm (PST)

So, without further ado, show me your magic!

OK, here's a quicky:
1. Adjust color of saddle via hue/sat adjustment
2. Cut out background
3. Replace background with South Platte Hotel from previous B&F
4. Extend wooden rail to left & right using clone tool
5. Desaturate, then apply sepia filter @ 30%
6. Apply damaged paper brush
7. Apply aged/yellow border
8. Soften image via GB @ 2 pixels @ 10% opacity
9. Resize to post

Okay here's my try. I used the Topaz filter in PSE 6.
Adjusted: Adaptive Exposure, regions, contrast, brightness, highlights, shadows, colors, and noise. Resized and done.

I couldn't sleep and wanted to play but don't count this as an entry because I'm supposed to be working this week and not playing :)

Nik Tonal contrast filter to bring out the shadows
Desat
add sepia later and lowered opacity so that the color barely showed through
used sand for a border layer and masked out the center then changed the hue of the sand
flatted and framed

edit: I forgot...I cloned out the road too

Thanks everyone for playing!

Pauley... your edit is very subtle. I like it though. :D Next time you play, post what processing steps you took, so we can follow along. :D

Paula... I like what you did with it. Makes it look a little like a drawing. Great work!

Permie... LOVE yours. Fantastic work there.

Frenchfx.... really great stuff there! I love how you took my picture, and made it a pic within yours. The things you added really lend something to the image. Well done!

The winner this time around is SilverHCIC. Congrats! I love how you extracted the saddle and placed it in a background that fit it better. I loved that saddle when I saw it sitting there, totally out of place, but nothing I've done in PP has made it 'fit'. Yours works splendidly!

Thanks everyone for playing!
Silver, you're up! :D

Congrats Silver and to everyone else.

I did try to edit this one and was going to post. But then I saw Permagrin. Yours was almost like the one I did and was about to post but 100x better (Fantastic job on the edit). So I was going to keep playing around with it but then my computer decided to update it self before I could save it. :(

Anywho Congrats again everyone on the great edits. Hopefully I'll be able to do the next one.

Awww, bummer you didn't get to post, Tracey. I would have loved to have seen it.
I liked Permagrin's edit as well, but she wasn't 'officially' playing this round.

thanks guys, when winter hits, my life will be much calmer and I'll get to play for real but I've been missing this game and really enjoying the edits I've seen (in all the episodes that I've not been able to play).

Congrats silver!
and frenchfx, I liked your edit a lot too.

Congrats silver, excellnt edit!

Permagrin, appreciate your comment, I was amazed at your edit, the detail you pulled out of the shadows and what I thought was unrecoverable highlights was fantastic. I almost didn't bother with this one after I saw your edit.

and Silver....It looks like an old picture you would find in the attic, very very authentic looking, great edit.
