I figured this would get a bit more exposure here. Just a quick question. I've always just upgraded DPP from the Canon update website but since my 50D arrives today, can the Canon software from the CD be installed over the existing version on my computer or does it need uninstalling first?

Thanks

I think it's safe to install over the top. I've done it before. I think ...

I believe that even their upgrades are complete installs in that they contain everything you need except for a few registry entries. I did uninstall mine first but don't think it's necessary.

If it's just DPP you are installing, personally I'd just check the version I was running, and if a newer version is available just download the newer version from the Canon website.

If you need/want all the other programs/drivers etc. then yes, just install from the CD over what you have, this should pick up any preferences you may have set as well.

The latest version with 50D support isn't available from the Canon site yet.

You can do a custom install where you pick which programs you want.
