I have a opportunity to buy a Rebel XTI, Kit 18-55, 75-300, extra battery, canon bag, Sandisk 2gb card, tripod, etc.

Is this a good deal for $495?

I'm thinking of buying it and keeping the body and selling my XT, and the rest of the stuff it comes with.

Thoughts?

Oh I know it's a junk lens, but I don't plan on keeping. I'll sell for cheap...

Xti is a nice body, but the overall deal is pretty decent, but personally if you're just in it for the body, i'd find a used 30d, but that's just my opinion.

Money is super tight right now, so this would be a good way to upgrade bodies without spending much money.

Yeah?

I would think you could find a used XTI body for less than that and save yourself the trouble of selling the lens.

The deal alone does not sound too bad if you had nothing to begin with. However, looking over your equipment list you not really adding any capability other than improving your body as you said you were looking to sell the 75-300 anyway. You might think about selling the XT, taking the $500 and getting into a used 40D if your looking to upgrade.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

i guess if i was desperately looking for a camera and all that stuff it would be a good deal, but everything in there is kinda junk. you cant expect the tripod to last long or even some of the other stuff in there.

i would just find the body for cheaper somewhere else. even if you did try to sell it, you wouldnt be able to get too much from it.

I guess it comes down to the normal question, what do you shoot?

People, models mostly. Outodoors, strobist style.

I don't want any of the crap, except maybe the XTI. I was thinking o fjust reselling it all. I'm guessing it's not worth the money though, lol.

Problem is, if you don't want any of that other stuff, you're still paying for it, and I think you *might* be able to get $100 for it all, but if not, then you've still paid $495 for a XTI and some unused stuff. You're better off looking for a used 20d or 30d body with the $495; you'd have a better body for the same money and no hassle. I think on my local Craigslist I found a 20d w/18-55 lens for $450, and a 30d body for $500, so those deals are out there.

That might be tough--I've had one for sale both here and craigslist--not much interest in XT's at the moment.
