I was in DC over the weekend and took a few pics of the changing of the guard at the "Tomb of the Unknown Soldier". C&C welcomed. Rod

Let the inspection begin:

they all look a touch underexposed to me, though with the heavy dark blue uniforms that is understandable....#5 is my favorite, great set of images

Great series, these guys are awesome. FYI..ever notice all these guys sorta look alike. They are selected by height, weight, similar looks, eye color...etc. They have very strict rules/guideline during and after their service at the tomb. Take time to read about them on the net. Red73 thank you for the wonderful shots..

Handsome, handsome, handsome.
What an honor for these gentlemen to be selected for this duty.

Great shots.

Some truth but not as strict as some think...especially off duty and after being a member of the "Old Guard."

yes, look into these guys. Awesome group. The Tomb has NEVER been left alone since the minute they started to guard it. I had a friend that was a guard. Great shots, but i have to wonder, if the weapon fails inspection.........what happens?

Thanks for posting.

It's an M1 Garand. I don't think it'll ever fail.

I did my basic training at Ft. Benning, the Army's Home of the Infantry. There is a "Old Guard" recruiter there. They are strict in many of their guidelines. The reason for them being a certain height (6' or taller) is that many nations are smaller in stature than the US. The tall height of the "Old Guard" soldiers is to portray "dominance" (for a lack of a better term). I've been honored to know a couple of guys who have served as Tomb Guards. One was recruited from my basic training class. If you've never seen the changing of the guard is truly a sight to behold.

OP, these are great photos. I agree that they're a tad underexposed, but good, nonetheless. Great job.

HOOAH!

I think you were fighting some difficult lighting and couldn't place them as you would like. Under the circumstances, I think you did well to balance the exposure, short of an HDR approach. They are well done and evoke emotion.
