I'm looking to buy an old 50 f/1.4 or 50 f/1.2, non EF mount. I was wondering which brand I should go for to maximize effectiveness of the adapter. IE: I have heard of some adapters killing IQ and cause mega focusing issues just because of the brand of camera the lens was originally optimized for.

Best if you avoid Canon, and I can recommend Zuiko (Olympus).

Forget the Canon FDs, the adapters have glass elements in them and hurt IQ a lot.

I really like my takumar, but there are so many choices out there - just (in general) try to avoid mounts that require adapters with optical elements.

As for focusing issues...you can pretty much forget about autofocus altogether :P.

When I said focusing issues, I was mainly referring to 'infinity focus' problems.

I rarely use AF on my 50 anyway.

Ah yeah. Then check this link:

It shows all the mounts that have a flange to focal plane distance that can accomodate a glass-free adpater while maintaining infinity focus.
