I'm debating over should I buy the actual canon battery grip for around $125 or from ebay for less tha $70

Has anyone tried or seen the build quality of these aftermarket parts before?

I just picked up a Targus grip for my 30d. I know it seems like your supose to stick with canon, but since i got the grip 89.99 brand new in box off amazon compaired to canon's bg which is 189 i think i made out well. The targus build grip is really nice the scroll wheel by the shutter is a little cheap but its a solid grip i would pick another up. Although i might skip some of the Ebay brands and stick to amazon you can get a better deal and its coming from a good store (47th street/adorama/bh/beachcamera)

Personally I find the build quality of the actual Canon battery grips to be low and all the third party ones I have seen to be just flat out unacceptable. But thats just my opinion. Many here use and love their battery grips.

i have a Canon BG-E2 and a Hahnel HC-30D PRO, the only difference between the 2 grips is that the Canon battery door is a little loose when inside the Hahnel one, the Battery door is in a different place as well

I bought the YongNou battery grip for the 450D/Rebel Xsi through Deal Extreme for about $74 http://www.dealextreme.com …s.dx/sku.14865~r.58547694 (external link)

Posted a review of it there on Deal Extreme and here https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=556842

After doing some additional research on my grip[It looks to be one of the Phottix battery grips.

I agree.

100% correct. Considering how bad the genuine Canon grips are, buying a 3rd party one is rolling the dice. I've owned Targus and Opteka, and both crapped out within a couple of months. I've had Canon grips fail too, but at least Canon provides a real warranty. Good luck getting Opteka to replace a faulty grip
