I absolutely love the Really Right Stuff L-Backet that I use on my 30D however, my Canon OEM remote release connnection socket will not fit when the L-bracket is in the portrait position because the socket is too large to fit under the L-bracket.

I felt that this was no a great disadvantage compared with the many advantages of the L-Backet - especially when shooting in the vertical position. I either used the shutter release button or the self timer (if the shutter speed was very long).

However, I have been pleased to learn that the connection socket for a cheap eBay cordless release I recently purchased can be used when the camera is in the vertical position. That connection is smaller than the connection of the OEM corded release.

Wait, so the actual canon brand one doesnt fit? Thats funny, perhaps the 30D L plate is designed differently than the 5D one as I use both the Canon remotes with my L plate and they both work fine in either orientation. Do you have the l plate for the camera gripped or ungripped?

RRS shows it should work fine just like my 5D ones does. Did you by chance get your L plate used? I think there was an issue with the wired remotes not having enough room in the older versions which if you bought used might be the case with yours.

That shouldn't be a problem, the L brackets are designed to allow you to use the connectors with the standard accessories.

Just in case you have the gripped one... RRS shows it should work fine too with wired remotes.

Boy, I'm surprised. My 40D, 5D and XT all with L brackets all work in portrait mode with the Canon remote.

What brand though? The only L bracket I own is the one on my 1D Mark II and it's a Kirk bracket.

Seemed more like a question about a specific bracket. As far as I understood all RRS and Kirk brackets have been designed to allow clearance for the cable. Far more interesting to hear about the ones that don't, or just find out that it's somehow being used incorrectly. Some of them (RRS I think) let you mount the bracket in slightly different positions (in terms of closeness to the side of the body).

I'd talk to RRS on this one after first checking to make sure the remote is seated properly etc... I'm pretty sure RRS designs these specifically to fit the Canon remotes.
