how to set the 580ex to wireless mode?

let's say if I want to take 580ex off my camera and put the 580ex on tripod, when I shoot I want it to fire, is there extra stuff that I need to buy in order for it to do that? thanks.


Canon 5DII, 15mm F2.8, 50mm f/1.2, 85mm f/1.8, 16-35mm f/2.8L, 24-70mm F2.8L, 100mm F2.8 Macro, 70-200mm F2.8L, 580EX. Stofen Omnibounce. LightSphere II.

The Off-Camera Cord OC-2 or else the ST-E2 remote transmitter to trigger it. The OC-2 is the cheaper option by a factor of 3-4x

Let me see if I can take a whack at this.

For wireless mode, you must have one wireless master (580EX, 550EX, or STE2) which is attached to the camera's hot shoe, either directly, or directly through the off-camera cord.

Then, the wireless master will "talk" to one or more wireless slaves (580EX, 550EX, or 420EX), and they will be untethered.
