Amazing entries one and all! I've been looking at these for some time now and the choices seemed to get harder each time. The creativity really stuns me...with that in mind, here are my picks (in reverse order):

HM. John_B: A Hole On The Waterfront- I had to come back to this one numerous times. Where do you find these things John?? (at first I thought it was some sort of lobster trap)...The reflection really fooled me. The calm placid water literally looks like someone just cut a hole in it. Well done John:)

3. Rare98Ragtop: Mornin'- Great composition; the lighting is superb and I love the mist over the water. This is one that could hang on my wall. Well done Robert and welcome to the forums:D

2. Flo: Out Of The Haze- I like the composition and the subdued colors on this one Gail. The mist also adds some mystery on the figures emerging from the shore. This one would make a great monochrome Gail:D:D

1. genodm: Moonlit Tidepools- Sublime, Geno! Superb composition. I love the silky texture of the clouds, sparkling reflections in the water and the shore with the twinkling lights. Are those faint visages of mountains in the background? Excellent throughout! Congratulations Geno!:D:D:D

Thank you all for participating. I really enjoyed allyour entries and wish I had more time to comment on them all.

Perhaps it should hve been called "At the Beach" rather than "On the Waterfront"as waterfront usually refers to a place where ships are loaded and unloaded and not beaches. Even "At the Ocean" would have been a better title.

waterfront
noun
shore, lakefront, lakeshore, harborfront, riverfront, riverside, esplanade, docks, quay, beach, foreshore, shoreline, embankment.

I think it covered it all:D

yes, but dealing with common usage and the reference to the movie seemed to indicate a more menial tilt. Just as water can be lake water, sewage water, salt water, toilet water or drinking water, now when you ask for a glass of water which should I bring you?

From Random house:

1. land on the edge of a body of water.
2. a part of a city or town on such land; wharf or dock section.
3. a container placed before a stove to heat water.

I guess it would be like having a contest for "On the Beach" and choosing a picture of stevadores loading a ship...

Beach

1. an expanse of sand or pebbles along a shore.
2. the part of the shore of an ocean, sea, large river, lake, etc., washed by the tide or waves.
3. the area adjacent to a seashore: We're vacationing at the beach.
–verb (used with object) 4. Nautical. to haul or run onto a beach: We beached the ship to save it.
5. to make inoperative or unemployed.

Since 2 above could mean a waterfront as well...

No,no...Not the Marlon Brando movie...

This challenge is all about whats found on or near the water.

Mike it was just a title...:)I think all the interpretations were on target. This is a challenge for fun anyway;)

Amazing entries one and all!

Ed, I have no idea how you picked me as the winner! You're absolutely right all were amazing entries.

1. genodm: Moonlit Tidepools- Sublime, Geno! Superb composition. I love the silky texture of the clouds, sparkling reflections in the water and the shore with the twinkling lights. Are those faint visages of mountains in the background? Excellent throughout! Congratulations Geno!

Thanks very much for the compliments. :o Your eyes are bang on. The large mountain in the background is actually a volcano. It's Mount Baker, part of the PNW Ring of Fire including Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Ranier and Mt. Hood. This shot is taken from Canada looking SW into the US, the treed area in the centre is a park that straddles the border.

I have to thank Rare98Ragtop for motivating me to get out that night and taking some photos after posting his killer image. Also, I'd like to thank my advisor for helping me pick the winning photo - especially since it beat out their entry.

I'll have a new competition up shortly.

Actually, I was on a pier. Technically, "On the Waterfront". :) Google "White Rock Pier" for the location.
