Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 - Markins Q3 or M10?

I am just getting started in the DSLR world and want to start out with a really nice tripod set up. I have a Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 on it's way and am debating between the Markins Q3 and Markins M10 ball head. I have a Canon 40D and a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8. I plan on getting a tele lens in the future.

Q's:
-Is the M10 more "stable" than the Q3?
-Will one "look" better on the tripod?
-Is the M10 more "future proof" if I plan to get much larger lenses in the distant future.

I've been lurking the forum for a while now and have learned so much. Thanks so much!

I think the Q3 would be fine up to 200mm, maybe 300mm lenses on occasion.
The tripod will fall short before the ballhead IMO.

If youre only intending to own one tripod setup at a time I'd say go with the M10 and later when you upgrade to a 2 or 3 series Gitzo youll have one nice setup!

Don't forget about the Q3T if you want something with a smaller panning base. :)

Unless youre going with a Gitzo traveler CF tripod, theres really no reason to go with the Q3T as opposed to the Q3.

In speaking to Markins regarding the same issue, their answer was that if all the long lenses you're likely to use have a ring collar which will fit the quick release, then the Q3 will be enough, as the overall weight will be balanced half-way down the lens-body assembly.

But if you plan to use a zoom lens without a collar, and the camera body will click into the quick release with the weight of the lens hanging off the front, then you should get the M10. It's got a bigger ball and more stability in this configuration.

In other words, I think the M10 is more futureproof. It's the one I'm planning to buy.
