So i need a External HDD asap. i have 12gigs lift on my 500gb iMac. i need something bug because i shoot all my high school sports events and all are shot in raw. and i will take at least 10gigs worth of pictures at each event. so i need something 1TB or over. it needs to have firewire 800 and must be 7200Rpm.

what would you recommend?

EDIT, for some reason i was thinking eSATA was something completly different than what is actually is haha.

Seagate FreeAgent Pro 500GB USB 2.0, eSATA. I got mine for $98.00 + tax here in Vancouver. I think Future shop has them for 135.00. I'm going to buy one every few months until I run out of space in the gear cabinet.

1 more vote for a FreeAgent Pro. They come in 1TB sizes as well if that's what you think you need.

Western Digital is the only brand that hasn't failed on me yet, *knock on wood*

They have a bunch of great external lines, such as the My Book Office edition or My Book Studio edition which is formatted specifically for a mac. The 1TB Studio is what I'm using right now and it's terribly fast and hard working.

I use the Western Digital My Book drive on my iMac with no issues at all. It will do firewire 400 and 800 along with usb 2.0. Do you already have an external drive for backup? If not, you really need 2 external drives, one for backup, one for extra storage. If you've got that much storage used up for photos, you really need to have some type of backup strategy in place.

With optical drives being so inexpensive, wouldn't it make sense to make periodic archive backups to DVD? Drives and media cost almost nothing, the media theoretically lasts longer than most people live, and there's almost no chance for mechanical failure with properly stored DVD disks.

Just a thought...
