This is my first try at this sort of image,added a pastel filter in ps and made it b&w,looking for C&C,i think it looks quite good but what do others think and can i do anything to improve it.

I like this!
You've got just the right amount shown in the scene - not too much and not too little.

The tonalities are also "right on" starting with the very whites down into the deepest shadows. It looks like you did a lot of playing around with it (from the histogram) and ended up with no clipping at either end.

Difficult to do for most people.

Great detail. I think I'd like this better in color, but that's just me lol :) You did perfect on the grey scale as no detail is lost but not to blown out either on the white. Nice :D

Beautiful soft baby hands. Nicely done. It might work as well a tad brighter, but the softness of the image is appropriate for the subject matter.

I am not so keen on the tone, it looks rather unnatural, i am no expert on new born bairns but the finger nails look a little odd.
I do like the framing and subject and also wonder how it looks in colour.
