100mm-400mm owners, what bag do you have?

I just got a 100mm-400mm F4.5-5.6 and need to replace my Tamrac Expedition 3...I went to look at some bags and it seemed like if the camera/lens fit mounted with the hood reversed that it cut down on the room to each side so much that I couldnt fit anything on the sides....I know there are some large bags that would work but I want something that is more manageable to carry on my back....I was told that a Tamrac Expeidition 5x would work but the shop I was at didnt have one for me to see just how big it was....I wanted to see the 4x but they didnt have that one either...so I am curious as to what bag you are using with your 100mm-400mm and if you have pics of it mounted on your camera in the bag I would love to see pics

All of my gear fits in my Expedition 5, although I'm not sure if it would accommodate another lens.

What all do you want to carry? Flash, other lenses, one or two bodies? Give us more info...

350D on the 100-400 with hood reversed, sigma 105mm DG EX Macro w/hood, 18-55 kit lens...no external flash yet but would like room for it when I do add it

I have an Expedition 7 and it carries my 100-400 mounted to whichever body it's on in the center area, another lens such as either my 300 F4 L or 70-200 F2.8L IS on one side of the bag, and on the other side I can make at least 3 sections for any of the following, another body, a flash, a lens, or even 2 if short. PLUS there's room in the center for another short lens below the end of the 100-400.

any chance you can post a pic? From what I could see online I figured the 5 would fit it all but wonder if the 4 would work(and be a bit lighter).....but ifyou have a pic that would be awesome too

Flip side reviews show that they should, 300 that is. 200 might but not enough room for everything else?

I remember trying the 4, it wasn't big enough. The 5 takes all my kit with no room to spare. It also holds lots of cards, filters, a storage device, cleaning kit, blower.

Have no pic currently, but have you tried www.cambags.com ?

I recently got a ThinkTank Airport Acceleration. It's an amazing backpack and fits all my camera gear. They are now on sale for under $200.

Thats what I was going to suggest too, the flipside 300.

I carry my 100-400 in one of two bags.
The Lowepro Fastpack 350 or the Tamrac Velocity 9x. I take the Tamrac to the ball games as it smaller.

When out for a walk, I carry the 100-400 in the case it came with and strap it to my belt. I find it extremely accessible.

Slingshot 200 AW for me. I can get fast access to my 40D and 100-400 and still have room for a 30D, 17-55, 10-22, 50/1.8, 1.4X teleconverter, macro tubes and 2 X 580EX and other bits and bobs.

The 100-400 could easily be swapped over with the 30D/17-55/10-22 to give fast access. Here's a demo of speed/ease of access to the Slingshot. This is with my 70-200 f/2.8 IS but the 100-400 would be the same in practice....

I have previously carried a 30D, a 100-400, a 24-105, 17-40 and a flash in a minitrekker, though it was very uncomfortable. My current bag is a Mountainsmith Odyssey, which I'm not particularly happy with either, but it easily will take my full kit, about double what the Minitrekker would, and will hold the 100-400 mounted with no worries.
