A few questions:

Does anyone know if the new batteries that are for the 5D Mark II are backwards compatible with the 5D, and if the old D5 batteries will function in the 5D Mark II?

Will the vertical grip from the D5 work on the Mark II?

Batteries and vertical grip are BOTH incompatible between 5D and mark II. You will need to buy new batteries and vertical grip for the mark II.

Thanks
Peace

THe batteries are not interchangeable, and the new 5D mkll batteries are prices at $194 Canadian. I guess I will not be upgrading my 5D anytime soon. What a ripoff.

Please speak slowly and distinctly. I have a wife and a computer, I don't need any more confusion in my life.

Eh? Rip-off? They're the same technology as appeared with the 1D mkIII, aren't they? - in which case you'll benefit from monstrously-improved battery-performance and a much better indication of remaining battery capacity than three or four piddly-little bars in your top LCD.

My 1d mkIII batteries seemingly 'last for ever', my 5D batteries most definitely don't...

How about Kirk plate/L-bracket compatibility? Will the ones for the 5D fit the II?

Apparently the 5D screens will fit in the MKII, but Canon says they could screw up the metering--technically they are not compatible.

I have plenty of BP-511A's that I will gladly give up for the new technology in the MKII. See here:
