After dithering for days and days (and days!), I finally pulled the trigger on a Gitzo 1541 tripod. Now I need to quit dithering about the ballhead. The decision is between the Kirk BH3 and the Markin Q3 or Q3T.

Camera is the 450D, heaviest lens (now or by rental) is under 4 pounds.

For those who own these, pros and cons?

Thanks!

Can only speak on the Markins Q3T. It's a fantastic ballhead. I put it on my Feisol 3441S which is roughly the same as the 1541 and considered a traveler tripod same as the Gitzo. The ballhead is smooth and I can't find a single thing to complain about. It's small and compact, yet very stable and strong. The Q3T is the strongest part of my setup. Highly recommended.

Q3T. I think it's a trimmer package than the Q3 but either is good. The Q3 is much lighter than the Kirk. For light legs like that, I see no point in adding weight needlessly.

With all the money that the world central banks are pumping into the economy, we're probably going to get whacked with inflation anyhow. If that happens, you are way better off with things rather than cash. Heck, spend away!

I may end up agreeing with you, but only after the Markins USA website comes back up. It's timed out all day.

Has anybody told you lately that you're a bad influence?

Thanks for the personal recommend, Ed. I've been trying to order the ballhead all afternoon; the Markins USA website is timing out.

Photoproshop.com also sells Markins gear. They are a Markins distributor. They have good customer service and are located in the US, Louisana. I bought my M10 from them. I bought my Q3 from markinsamerica.com

Thanks. I'd like to at least compare prices between the two. I'll keep checking the Markins America site.
