Yep... big names buy full-page ads, so your shots needs to work at that kind of scale, which means you also need to add atmosphere.

Having said that, I'm not entirely sure what your purpose was here, so I might be totally off base. Right now, it's a very nice shot of an object, but it's not a perfume ad.

Hi Milo, i just received my triggers today, so was just basically playing around with strobist, trying to learn how to light, get certain results etc and this one came up as my fav be it not that its too tight cropped.

however your comment makes very much sense and I will think of that in future.

Thank you

What would make this ad-worthy is a shot of it standing upright, and a very sexy lady in a black evening gown defocused in the background, maybe with a man in a tux. Perhaps even have a set of pearls nicely laid out next to the perfume. Chanel is elegance. You have to show it.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

well, from that point of view, it's come up smashingly well :)

I've been meaning to carve myself out a little nook to shoot products in, but whenever I raise it, my girlfriend puts her hands over her ears and sings "lalalalalalala".

Need some man-space, stat! :D

Good luck with the new setup, not that you'll need it :)

thanks cdifoto, good comments, ill think of that next time when i try doing something like this. its good to get ideas.

Milo, aha thank you! i am luckily well supported by my wife in photography otherwise i couldnt pull it off in HK with its supersmall flats etc.
Maybe you can do like me have everything in 1 small suitcase, i roll it under the bed and assign yourself one small full height cabinet for all your props......the wife couldnt complain of that too much now could she?

Not a bad idea... though I think she'd generally prefer if I just kept it all away from her... but mostly because I'm useless at picking up after myself. There's always something to shoot tomorrow, so why bother packing it up? I'm my own worst enemy.

I'm looking to rent a little warehouse space though, and when I do, she can reclaim the garage, and that cold lonely bed too, cos I'll be there most nights ;)

Cheers :D

Chef, great concept with the chocolate. I would have used dark.and had the perfume off to the left side, upright.and pearls is a great idea....drapped over the chocolate perhaps?

hi again, I had time to revisit this, however deviated of Chanel and did something "girlish" alltogether, however I find its also not good at all, would appreciate cc and ripping it apart, it will only hlp me learn more.

Chef, this is pretty cool.I would rather see the Chanel bottle upright though..and having the camera reflected makes it seem so huge? Maybe throw a black silky scarf kind of tossed on the mirror and then place the camera on it?
