I would have liked it better if he were sitting in front of the wall. His upper body and guitar are underexposed. The white pants probably caused this.

I think the crop works great as a portrait, but you lose the reflection of the guitarist and palm tree in the window. Maybe compromise by cropping to an odd size, like square or one of the large format aspect ratios.
