Really, really impressed with this case.

Took me a while to 'pluck' all the foam out but it's worth it. Another vote for Peli

I want one of these, but I reckon I'd go through several foam inserts a year, just second-guessing lens-tetris.

Yeah, great cases but the foam isn't the best choice. I plucked mine beautifully and took care of it but it quickly started to fall apart and when you buy and sell stuff then you are left with an ill-fitting set up. I bought the inserts instead and while not as elegant as a perfect foam set up it is more practical by far.

Nice! Yes Pelican cases by far the best way to go! I have never had a second thought after buying my 1624 and will buy the 1514 someday as well. I also use their cases for other stuff besides camera equipment and for no matter what I use them for they always perform perfectly!

Got serious headache from trying to use the foam. The divider set is so much easier and much more efficient use of space.

Now that all the banks are going bank-rupt, Pelican is also great for storing your cash... ;)

Just kidding... I LOVE my Pelican 1614. :D

How did you cut the foam to fit the gear?

I tried cutting foam once for something similar and it was a disaster. I even tried freezing it and then cutting. Basic shapes were no sweat, but then getting the foam out was ugly...

I used cocktail sticks to mark out where I wanted the equipment to go. Then with a blunt knife scored along the grooves down to about 10mm. After this I could get my finger down the edges and simply pull out the section

interesting, is this how you normally carry your gear or store your gear? or does it go with your checked luggage when you're flying?

just curious, i bought one and found it way too heavy for everyday use, since I've sold mine and I'm currently using a crumpler backpack with the proper dividers

Also interesting is why people use the foam insert. It is such a terrible waste of space in my eyes. To each their own though.

You can do a really professional-looking foam cutting job with cardboard templates and a $12 hot wire cutter from the arts and crafts store. Trace out your layout on the cardboard, cut out the templates and thumb tack them to the foam. Cut a small slit in the foam to push the wire of the cutter through, and then turn it on. Cuts with absolutely no resistance and no raggedy foam.

Nice case!

Another vote for the divider insert version. You can store so much more, and reconfigure at will.

Nice case. I like my Hardigg Storm case. The Foam can be easily configured by simply pulling out cubes as needed. If I'm not mistaken the Pelicans are the same. I think my equipment is more protected with the foam vs the dividers because of the tight fit.

Yes, I have gone through a few foam inserts but at least for now I have everyting I need so its currently configured to my liking.
