Thanks to all for the CC. Heres the original (i.e. 0ev; since i just about had time only to set the tripod and get my shots and run off, before i disturbed the poor man)

Colour depth-wise I should agree that the scene didn't have the dynamic range for an HDR... but shadows were intense, and all in all I feel that the HDR processed image serves more justice to the overall environment. I cannot stress how much I tried to lay low on the PP of this shot. Didn't have much flexibility as I started off with three Jpegs... I suppose working with RAW would have been an entirely different story.

Personally, I do like the outcome, but do very well understand why my processing choices might not work with tastes of many others.

Anyhoo.... Many thanks, much appreciated :)

Thanks all! :D

I think the background is very interesting with all the textures, but it's busy, and my attention was pulled away from the homeless man and his dog.

I can't agree more!
I love the background too, but it definitely is way too busy. Distracts my attention as well. I so wished it was less distracting. I didn't want to play with that. I like to keep things real, as far as I can (though many may protest against me saying this, as I have chosen to do HDR processing on this image, and eventually resulted in a very un-natural looking scene)

Thanks for the comments.

Btw, that is a temple he is sleeping next to...

My opinion is that the PP works wonderfully on the subjects, but it's overwhelming on the background. There's so much architectural detail on the walls that the PP just makes it too visually distracting, and you lose the subjects.

I actually like the original better, personally. Great capture.

IMHO, this image is, in many ways, similar in style to the work of Dave Hill (external link).

Wow, I do see what you mean! Hehe... Very artistic work (of Dave Hill), mine would be a pathetic attempt in comparison, though :)

Thank you very much for dropping by and commenting!

I really appreciate this post. You have nailed the problem spot on... I do wish I took a few more minutes to take a separate shot of the same scene, with more exposure balance to the overall image.

That would have perhaps been a way better option...

Many thanks,

-Reef

Oops sorry just saw it.

If you crop out the car (but not the dogs tail!) and also get rid of the black plastic bag. But leave the water bottle.

And perhaps just lighten up the man a little bit, and I think you've got a perfect shot. I wouldn't have done HDR with this at all.

Just couldn't help myself.

What do you think about this one? I re-did everything. Vote, First PProcessed image or Second?

I like the PP in the first but the second processed image is excellent - actually looks to me like something out of Roman times.

Personally, I find that the subject kind of blends in with the background a little too much. I think the background is very interesting with all the textures, but it's busy, and my attention was pulled away from the homeless man and his dog.

you haven't really resolved this problem, but I still really like it. 2 is much more appealing to me.

very nice mi_reefy.

Well, I've already mentioned in a previous post that I don't feel right modifying the background in any way and hence deliberately left it as it was even in the second. Thanks a lot for the comments!
