Which do you prefer: gradient gray border or solid gray border?

Maybe you should check just to make certain.

About the turned wooden objects: The wood used for the bowl and three spheres is Bois D'Arc, also known as Osage Orange. I photographed these for wood artist Matt Rabe.

An optical illusion might make the frame on image #1 look like it has a gradient that is lightest in the upper left and darkest in the lower right, but it is a constant gray with a value of 192 in each channel. Likewise, an optical illusion may cause you to perceive the gray frame in image #2 as being a constant value, but it has a gradient that is darkest in the upper left and lightest in the lower right.
